Dirk spent his formative years in Hobson, Montana, where he learned to enjoy open space and a good story. Before pursuing his legal education, he worked in agricultural and construction positions from Texas to Norway to Alaska.

Dirk graduated from the University of Montana in 1980 with a BA in Economics and Political Science. In 1985, Dirk obtained his JD from the University of Montana School of Law. There he served as Articles Editor of the Montana Law Review, to which he has now contributed three articles. He was awarded his Masters of Laws in Taxation from the University of Florida School of Law in 1988.

In addition to over 20 years in the private practice of law, Dirk worked for three years in the trust and wealth management field, and has taught courses in agricultural law and federal taxation at the University of Montana School of Law.  Dirk also has served as Chair of the State Bar of Montana CLE Institute, President of the Board of Youth Homes, Inc. (a major Montana nonprofit), as a long-time youth baseball umpire, and in numerous other community service capacities.

Dirk’s practice focuses on estate planning and administration, as well as business and real property issues. He is based in the Missoula, Montana office of the Crowley firm.
